Gary J. O'Brien - November 11, 2004

RUTLAND -- Gary J. O'Brien, 64, of 203 E. Race St., Rutland, died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 11, 2004) at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Danville.

A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Minonk. Father Ray Guthrie will officiate. Interment will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Church Cemetery, Minonk, with military rites conducted by the Rutland American Legion. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home, Minonk, is handling arrangements.

Gary was born Nov. 21, 1939, at Bloomington, a son of John and Lorraine Proctor O'Brien.

Survivors include his mother, Lorraine O'Brien, Minonk; a daughter, Vicki O'Brien, Tonica; two sisters, Gloria (John) McGough, Rutland; and Jannie Herman, Minonk; four granddaughters, Britnae, Jordan, Kylie and Evy of Tonica; and several nieces, a nephew and several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; a son, Randy; and his grandparents.

He attended St. Patrick's Catholic Grade School, Minonk, and graduated from Minonk-Dana-Rutland High School, Minonk.

He served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the Rutland American Legion and the Minonk VFW.

Memorials may be made to the Rutland American Legion or the American Cancer Society.
